Fugs 1985-2004
Ed
Sanders-- founder and singer.
American bard, social activist, environmentalist, novelist
and publisher of The Woodstock Journal (woodstockjournal.com).
He also invents musical instruments such as the Talking
Tie and the microtonal Microlyre. Among Sanders' recent books are
America, A History in Verse, Vols. 1 (1900-1939) and
2 (1940-1961) and 3 (1962-1970) and The Poetry and Life of Allen Ginsberg. See his new CD, available on parisrecords.net, Poems for New Orleans.
Tuli
Kupferberg-- co-founder and singer.
Kupferberg's poems and songs are popular around the world.
He has become a well known political cartoonist in recent
years. His latest book, from Autonomedia, is Teach Yourself
Fucking. Tuli has written some wonderful tunes for The Fugs Final CD (Part 2).
Steve Taylor-- vocals
and guitars.
His beautiful voice gives the Fugs outstanding vocal qualities
on tunes set to the poems of William Blake and classics
such as "Crystal Liaison," "Slum Goddess," and "Morning
Morning.." Taylor is a professor of writing at Naropa University
in Boulder Colorado, and a noted composer who performed
with Allen Ginsberg for many years. His string quartet setting
to Allen Ginsberg's poem "White Shroud" is an
outstanding 20th century composition.
Coby
Batty-- drums, percussion and vocals. Coby is a well
known musician and songwriter with his own band in Richmond,
Virginia. Batty has performed with Don Cherry, John Zorn,
Eugene Chadbourne and many others. He has a powerful singing
voice.
Scott Petito-- bass
and keyboards. Petito is a well known record producer who
operates NRS Recording studios near Woodstock, where many
groups have recorded such as The Band, The Fugs, and many
others. Currently Petito performs with the singer Leslie
Ritter as the Leslie Ritter and Scott Petito band.
